Football league and club managers have agreed to abolish sign-on fees and pay each player registered for the Nigerian championship a minimum of N150, 000 a month.
The League Management Company’s Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar made the statement at the LMC’s Club managers’ meeting in Abuja on Monday.
Several clubs including Kaduna United, Shooting Stars and Heartland have already cancelled sign-on fees and now pay large monthly salaries instead.
Monday’s meeting in Abuja between the League management company (LMC) and the club managers addressed the issue of a bank guarantee of a N100m by each club, among the various basic requirements to be fulfilled by the clubs before they will be registered for the new season.
The new season of the Nigerian league begins on February 23.
