The FCT team beat Lagos State 5-1
yesterday in Abuja to win the U-13 Football Championship and retain their
title.
Four first half goals put the defending
champions ahead in the final match of the National Football League’s 2013
competitions. Ebuka Okeke scored two in the first 10 minutes, Abdulsalam
Mohammed added a third in the 15th and Thaddeus Terwas and Abdulsalam Adeleke
scored the fourth and fifth in the 26th and 50th minutes respectively.
Lagos State had beaten the Abuja team
3-2 in an earlier match but proved no match for them yesterday, only managing
to score a consolatory goal by Hadi Haruna in the 57th minute.
FCT’s coach, Usman Ilerika said his
team had been determined to beat Lagos in the final match. “We could not afford
to lose to them again,” he said.
This is the FCT’s second trophy in a
row, a record for the tournament. The Niger team came third after Katsina State
was disqualified because of gross indiscipline.
