Officials of the Abuja
Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) over the weekend raided the Ladi Kwali
junction, Wuse Zone 4, where foreign currency dealers, food vendors, and
hawkers have taken over.
The AEPB during the exercise removed
several stalls used by the traders and warned that they should restrict their
activities to the garden within the area.
The Media Liaison Officer of the board,
Mr. Samuel Musa, said that the exercise was in line with the board’s drive
towards achieving a clean and habitable FCT.
“Modern cities are well planned and maintained for
proper habitation and they do not give room for indiscriminate hawking of
wares,” he said.
“This exercise is in line with our resolve to ensure
that nuisances within the FCT are seriously taken care of to maintain the
hygiene and serenity of the city.”
He added that the task of ensuring the immediate removal of people and
property considered to be nuisances within the Federal Capital City was a
continuous one.
