The Department of Development Control
of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) on Sunday demolished FESCO
Security Gardens and Deos Gardens in Imo Crescent, Area 1, Garki, Abuja.
AMMC Coordinator, Mr. Rueben Okoya,
explained that the properties were pulled down because people engaged in
illegal activities there.
“They converted a green area into a
Church,” he said, “a recreational garden and a residential area all in one.
This is unacceptable.”
“Human beings, if not checked,” he
added, “will constitute themselves into nuisance in the society; if we allow
this kind of development in the FCT, the city will become rough and
inhabitable.”
Mr. Okoya further stated that AMMC was
increasing its monitoring activities to ensure that such illegal structures,
when demolished, were not rebuilt by the owners.
