The United Sates government on Monday in Abuja pledged to continue to support the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in their efforts to rid Nigeria of corruption and other financial crimes.
The new American Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, said this during a meeting with the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, where he expressed his pleasure with the commission’s work so far.
Mr. Lamorde commended the US government for their support for the EFCC since its inception, and said that the US government remained a major international ally in their fight against corruption and financial crimes.
The Chairman promised not to let the US down and confirmed that that Commission, which often collaborates with various US law and enforcement organisations, remained neutral in its duties.
“We know you have confidence in us,” he said, “and we will make sure that the confidence is not misplaced.”
The Commission secured 117 convictions in 2013.
