80% of FCT Districts Undeveloped – Minister

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, has said that 80 percent of the 79 districts and nine sector centres of the FCT were still under-developed.

The minister made the disclosure recently in his office when he received the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu.

He said after 30 years of the existence of the FCT, only 11 districts and two sector centres have been developed.

The minister attributed the situation to paucity of funds. He said one of the ways of bridging the infrastructure deficit was for PENCOM to make the funds available to it for investment in infrastructural development instead of leaving such funds idle.

He urged the commission to check the law establishing it to enable it to go into partnership with genuine investors to use such funds, thereby reducing the over-dependence on foreign capital inflow.
