Japanese Agency to Provide $10m Funding for Bwari Solar Project

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has concluded plans to provide a $10m fund for a solar-powered plant that would provide electricity for the treatment of water at the Lower Usuma Dam in Bwari area council of the Federal Capital territory (FCT).

The technical agreement for the project was signed by the representatives of the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Environment, the FCT Administration, and the JICA.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Power Godknows Igali noted that the project was very important as it would provide power for the treatment plant and also make power available to the people in the area.

In a statement, the Country Representative of JICA, Seki Tetsuo, assured Nigeria that the grant-in-aid given by the government of Japan would be judiciously utilised for the project. He added that the most important aspect of the agreement is the provision for training of Nigerians that would operate the plant.

The project which will commence in May and is expected to be completed in 2015.
