The
Presidency yesterday released a statement refuting online reports that
the Minister of Defense, Lt.-Gen Aliyu Gusau has resigned.
“General
Gusau remains in Office as Minister of Defence,” read the statement,
which was signed by President Goodluck Jonathan’s Special Adviser of
Media, Reuben Abati.
It
further stated that “[Gusau’s] absence from today's meeting of the
Federal Executive Council, which was cited in support of the false
report of his resignation, was with the permission of President Goodluck
Jonathan.”
Gen.
Gusau’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Adebisi Adekunle, also
denied the reports yesterday in an interview with the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Gusau, a former Security Adviser, was sworn in as Minister of Defence by President Jonathan on March 5 along with 10 others.
