The
Nigerian Army, police and other security agencies have been placed on
high alert to pre-empt any act of terrorism in Abuja during the National
 Conference, which begins next week.
Security
personnel have been dispatched to public buildings, military and police
headquarters, high-profile offices and densely-populated areas across
the FCT that may be targeted by insurgents during the conference, and
soldiers will be stationed at the entry and exit points into the federal
 capital.
There
will be increased stop and search conducted on vehicles, and more
patrols and intelligence gathering at notable notorious spots in and
around the FCT, which include Gwagwalada, Suleja, Deidei, Dutse Alhaji,
Mpape, Apo Mechanic Village, Zuba, Mararaba, Nyanya, motor parks and
uncompleted buildings.
The
managers and owners of hotels, restaurants and drinking joints have
also been advised to be wary of the kind of guests they accommodate and
entertain on their premises, and to report any suspicious characters to
the police.
