Super Eagles Begin Training for CHAN

Nigeria’s National football team began training in Abuja on Tuesday for the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The Super Eagles’ assistant coach Daniel Amokachi took charge of the session in which 30 players were in attendance, in the absence of coach Stephen Keshi who will return from his trip to witness the World Cup draw in Brazil tomorrow.

Three of the players included in the CHAN team are from the victorious U17 team: Dele Alampasu, Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

“We are very impressed with the response of the players to camp,” said the team’s coordinator Emmanuel Atta. “The fitness level of the boys is very encouraging but we are not surprised because a lot of the premier league clubs are presently on pre-season and that has helped the players remain in good shape.”

Amokachi told the players that only the best will be selected for the tournament, which begins on January 11 in South Africa with Nigeria playing their opening match against Mali.
