Amirul Hajj, Gen. A. B. Mamman

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Amirul Hajj, Gen. A. B. Mamman, has said that corruption was gradually creeping into Hajj operation in the territory.

Gen. Mamman made the statement while presenting the report of the 2013 Hajj operation to the FCT Minister of State, Mrs. Olajumoke Akinjide. He condemned the monopoly of the exercise by FCT officials, the absence of officials at Medina, the wide communications gap, as well as an imbalance in the ratio of nurses, doctors and pharmacists engaged to take care of the health of the pilgrims.

But he noted that the 2013 pilgrimage was generally good, and recommended that political consideration be down-played, while competence be made a priority during appointment of officials for FCT’s Hajj.

In her response, the minister assured that the issues raised will be promptly addressed.
