Coaches Search for Talent at National Youth Games

Coaches scouting for raw, undiscovered talent have been dispatched across all the competition venues of the National Youth Games, which kicked off at the Abuja National Stadium yesterday.

Over 4, 000 under-17 competitors from all across Nigeria gathered at the capital for the first edition of the youth games organised by the National Sports Commission (NSC), and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) sent 10 of their top coaches to locate the exceptional athletes in attendance.

The Chairman of AFN’s Technical Committee, Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, spoke about the mandate for the scouting committee, which is headed by hurdling champion and former Delta State Director of Sports Seigha Porbeni.

Coach Femi Emmanuel will scout for quality sprinters and Coach Dan Etsebiminor, who discovered U.S-based Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare will scout for the next sprint champion. Talented long and middle distance runners, long jumpers and hurdlers were also been sougth.
