The
Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will close the two
chambers of the National Assembly for a year to enable the authorities
to renovate the complex.
Briefing State House correspondents after the National Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku was joined by FCT Minister Sen. Bala Mohammed and said that the council approved the project based on a memo presented by the FCT minister.
The project, which will cost N40 billion, includes the upgrade of the two chambers of the National Assembly complex and the construction of the third phase of the complex.
During the period of closure, legislators are expected to use existing committee halls for their deliberations, which the FCT minister assured were large enough to accommodate the lawmakers.
