Loyola Jesuit College Marks 8 Years since Sosoliso Crash

The faculty, parents and students of Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja came together to remember 60 of their students who died in the Sosoliso plane crash eight years ago.

Flight 1145 from Abuja to Port Harcourt crash landed at Port Harcourt International Airport on December 10 2005, bursting into flames and killing all but two of the 103 passengers and seven crew members on board. One of survivors was LJC student Kechi Okwuch.

A memorial mass and candle light procession was held at Loyola College in Karu on Wednesday night to remember the ’60 Angles’ who included three siblings, one of whom was the Head Boy at the time.

Mrs Ochuko Momoh, the Chair of the Abuja branch of the LJC Parents Teachers’ Association spoke before the memorial saying “We will never forget our children who left us in the most heart-breaking manner. Having 60 promising lives, 10 per cent of our entire student population, cut short in one swoop was too much for any school to bear.”

Popular Pastor Bimbo Odukoya of Fountain of Life church also died in the plane crash.
