The
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Health Service Scheme has revealed that
about 66,000 people have enrolled in its programme since its inception
in 2006.
The manager of the scheme, Dr. Evans Onyekele, made
the disclosure at an interactive session with desk officers of private
health institutions in Abuja. He said the number of registrants was
encouraging, considering the challenge the scheme initially faced.
“At the beginning of the scheme,” Dr Onyekele said, “there was some
level of apathy in registration as staff were not sure of the success of
the programme. Today, the story has changed as massive registration of
staff and their dependants is the case due to high level awareness
campaigns.”
But he admitted that there were more challenges to be surmounted in order to reposition the scheme to meet its set objectives.
