People Living with HIV to Protest over Alleged Neglect

The Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) have said they will embark on a protest in Abuja unless the Project Manager of FCT Agency for the Control of AIDS (FACA), Dr. Uche Okoro, is removed from office and replaced with someone who can feel their pulse.
The Coordinator NEPWHAN, Mr John Okene, made the statement while briefing newsmen recently in Kubwa, Abuja, at the end of a meeting of coordinators of support groups of people living with HIV/AIDS. He alleged that Dr. Okoro was liable for deaths of their members as a result of inadequate care and support.
He also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately investigate alleged misuse of funds from the World Bank HIV/AIDS intervention fund for the FCT.
In his reaction Dr Okoro said funding of NEPWHAN activities is a privilege and not a right as perceived by members. As a result of limited resources, he added, the FCTA has decided to stop further sponsorship of NEPWHAN and some other NGOs operating in the FCT,  a decision he said, has since been communicated to NEPWHAN.
