National Conference Mourns Akunyili

The ongoing National Conference in Abuja has expressed sadness over the death of Prof. Dora Akunyili, who was a delegate at the conference.

This was contained in a statement yesterday by the Assistant Secretary, Media and Communications of the conference, Mr James Akpandem. He said the conference received with shock and sadness news of her death in an Indian hospital on Saturday.

He noted that Prof Akunyili’s last official assignment was on March 24 at the conference, where she received a thunderous applause for her eloquent contributions to the debate on President Goodluck Jonathan’s speech to the conference.

Prof Akunyili was a former Director-General of NAFDAC, a former Minister of Information and Communications, and a delegate representing Anambra at the conference. Her demise brings to three the number of deaths recorded at the conference since its inauguration on March 17.
