Maitama Hospital Calls for Blood Donation for Blast Victims

Authorities at the Mataima District Hospital, Abuja, where some of last Wednesday’s EMAB Plaza bomb blast victims are receiving treatment, have called on Nigerians to donate blood for the victims.
The hospital secretary, Mrs. Angela Effiong, made the call while speaking to journalists in Abuja yesterday. She said that the hospital was in serious need of blood supplies because of the spate of bombings in Abuja lately.
“Blood donors play an integral role in the survival of these bomb blast victims as many lifesaving medical treatments and procedures involve blood transfusion,” she said. “Whenever there are medical emergencies, you don’t ask victims to bring blood, we get blood from our blood bank, which are donations from people like you.”
She explained that one pint of blood can save up to three lives, adding that healthy adults may donate about a pint of blood every 56 days, or every two months.”
